Trekking Eolie

The Aeolian islands offer a great number of opportunities fron trekkers and nature-lover:

Salina

  • Leaving behind the vineyard and capers Salina, despite its size, offers more than one trekking experiences which can be, at will, easily integrated with your food discovery experience. From Pollara a guide will lead you on one of the twin peaks “Monte dei Porri” and then will descend for a trek along the cliffs on the wildest side of the island, on a trail that leads to Leni. The perfect itinerary for those who want to observe the local fauna and enjoy naturalistic photography. Length: 4 hours
  • Other possible trails are will lead from Valdichiesa around mount Fossa delle Felci in the depth of a vegetation of acacias, maritime pines and the chestnut forest inside of the ancient crater; concluding the trail towards the coast of Malfa, Lingua or Santa Marina. Length: 5-6 hours

Panarea

  • We offer the chance of taking part in a naturalistic tour with a guide beginning among the typical white Aeolian houses of contrada Ditella and leading towards the natural hot springs of Calcara, beach famous due to its “fumarole” that shoot hot steam from the volcanic ground, even underwater. The tour will continue climbing up the only peak on the island; Punta del Corvo. The height is 420 meters and the view allows to see most of archipelago. Length: 3 hours
  • Another possible route begins from the famous hamlet of San Pietro, fascinating in its contrast of old churches and modern clubs, and it leads around the mount in a vegetation of shrubs, myrtles and some cypress. Length: 2.5 hours

Lipari

  • A local guide will lead a naturalistic exploration of the two highest peaks of the island. From the hamlet of Quattropani it originates the path that reaches the summit of Monte Chirica (602m), interesting mount since its southern face is covered in the white dusts of pumice stones. The bright landscape is in sharp contrast with the black sciara of Stromboli not only for the color but also for the thick undergrowth that flourishes in the area.
The path goes towards Sant’Eramo, passing by the valley Fiume Bianco, directed South where the second peak of the island is located: Monte S.Angelo (594m). Length: 6 hours
  • An alternative route starts from the abandoned Caolino caves, on the western side of Lipari. The path passes by the pumice walls at a short distance from the old caves, active since the times of the Greek domination, in the most ancient part of the isle where the fumarole left their multicolored sign on the rocks. The tour includes the limestone deposits of Timpone Pataso continuing towards a natural pool that collects the water of a thermal wellspring. The coast of this side of the island is home to the herring gull, which is here observed for the most part of the year. The route leads to the suggestive San Calogero baths, place dense of history, popular for possessing the only example of Mycenaean architecture outside of the Aegean sea. Length: 5 hours

Vulcano

  • The most popular route trekking will lead on the border of the Fossa, the last active volcano on the isle. This location is the only one from which it’s possible to admire the entire archipelago without turning around. The location is devoid of trees aside from small bushes and it’s quite a different experience from other routes in Aeolies. Length: 2.5 hours
  • A more difficult route can be taken as a continuation of the previous one. Descending from Lentia’s caldera on the western side the excursionists will be guided towards the hidden beach of Abate’s Cave. Length: 3/4 hours
