The stronghold Forte Stella, together with the Forte Falcone and Linguella Tower, is one of the most important fortifications of Portoferraio. The fort, named after its star-shaped ground plan, rises up on the hill surrounding the town. The red bricked castle was built back in the XVI century, and is adorned by galleries, embrasures and by a graceful though majestic circular lighthouse.
